The scholarship has been generously established in memory of the distinguished Indigenous Australian, Ken Wanganeen. Mr Wanganeen completed his first degree with honours at Flinders University and during his career became Assistant Secretary in the Department of Aboriginal Affairs. He was committed to developing constructive ways of bringing the people of Australia together.

Academic merit, IndigenousThe award is available each year to a prospective or current ANU student who:
(a) is an Australian citizen; and
(b) is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent; and
(c) identifies as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person; and
(d) is accepted as such by the community in which they live, or formerly lived; and
(e) is enrolled or will be enrolled in a postgraduate coursework program at the university, or is enrolled or will be enrolled in the Australian National Internships Program.
Preference may be given to students who have not previously applied or been awarded the scholarship.
