Dr Gemma King
A Senior Lecturer in French Studies in CASS, I research contemporary francophone cinemas and museums, specialising in multilingualism, deafness, colonial histories and social power. I am author of Decentring France: Multilingualism and Power in Contemporary French Cinema (Manchester UP, 2017) and Jacques Audiard (2021), a volume in Manchester's French Film Directors series. My writing has also been published in French Screen Studies, L'Esprit Créateur, French Cultural Studies, Contemporary French Civilization, The Australian Journal of French Studies, Inside Higher Ed, The Conversation, Francosphères and numerous edited volumes.
In addition to teaching and research, I serve as Vice President of the Australian Society for French Studies, on the US Diversity and Decolonization in the French Curriculum Executive Committee and on the Editorial Board of the Edinburgh UP book series, New Directions in Francophone Studies: Diversity, Decolonization, Queerness. Within CASS, I serve on the CASS Education Committee, convene the SLLL Education Reference Group and represent CASS on the Education Fellowship Scheme ANU Committee. I have received education awards at the CASS (2017, 2020), ANU (2018) and national (2020) levels. I am applying for Academic Board to represent CASS and foster diverse and decolonial perspectives at the University level.
