Dr Kate Flaherty

Senior Lecturer, English and Drama

Kate joined ANU as a lecturer in English and Drama in the College of Arts and Social Sciences in 2012. A dedicated educator, Kate is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and winner of the CASS Award for Teaching Excellence (2018), and the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence (2019). Kate’s research on Shakespeare and public culture has found expression in books, articles, and chapters published by leading venues, as well as in international research partnerships, steering committees, and public outreach. Kate is compelled by the encompassing vision to which the word ‘university’ speaks. In the small details of everyday teaching and corridor conversations with colleagues, no less than in serving on College and University-level committees, pedagogical excellence, intellectual rigor, and equality of opportunity are her guiding lights. Kate would love to work with like-minded colleagues to serve an ANU in which integrated excellence in teaching and research promotes the flourishing of future generations of creative, robust and responsible contributors to society. In her view, this entails the sustaining of an ANU whose researchers guide debates in their fields at the highest levels while shaping solutions to the challenges that touch everyone.
