Young Alumnus of the Year
Congratulations to Kieran Pender (BA '16, LLB '18, GradDipLegPrac '19), our Young Alumnus of the Year for 2022.
When Kieran was a student, he conducted the largest global survey on bullying and sexual harassment in the legal profession, published as Us Too? Bullying and Sexual Harassment in the Legal Profession, and presented the findings of this study in three different continents.
Today, Kieran works as a senior lawyer in the Human Rights Law Centre. His manifold work and publications speak to his continuing advocacy - for example, he has spoken about whistleblowing at the United Nations, World Bank, European Parliament, OECD and B20.
Kieran has been awarded the Australian Association of Constitutional Law's 2019 Saunders Prize for Excellence in Scholarship, the Pro Bono/Community Lawyer of the Year at the 30 Under 30 Awards 2022, and the ACT Law Society's Young Lawyer of the Year 2022.
Kieran continues to give back to the ANU community through a scholarship he helped establish at the International Bar Association, and through being a mentor and honorary lecturer at the ANU College of Law.
