Council committees

Student Safety and Wellbeing Committee

The Student Safety and Wellbeing Committee monitors and advises Council on the University's management of matters concerning the safety and wellbeing of students enrolled at the University, consistent with the University's pursuit of excellence in all aspects of its work as outlined in the Strategic Plan (ANU 2025), including in addressing sexual assault and sexual harassment at the ANU.

Exceptional Business Committee

Council renamed the Council COVID-19 Committee on 14 June 2024 to the Council Exceptional Business Committee for the purpose of supporting the University response to relevant major incidents, for example pandemics, and to advise Council on relevant issues.

Campus Planning Committee

The Campus Planning Committee is a Committee of Council. The Committee monitors and advises Council on matters relating to the planning and development of the University's major property and physical infrastructure. The Committee operates under a charter, as approved by the Council.

Nominations Committee

The Nominations Committee is a Committee of Council, established under section 10 of the Australian National University Act 1991. It recommends to the Minister for Education the appointment of the seven external members of Council. The Committee operates under its Charter, as approved by the Council.

Remuneration Committee

The Remuneration Committee is a Committee of Council. It determines the remuneration and conditions of employment of the Vice-Chancellor; monitors and reviews decisions of the Vice-Chancellor on matters concerning the performance and remuneration of the senior management of the University; and in an emergency may exercise the power of the Council to appoint an Acting Vice-Chancellor. The Committee operates under a charter, as approved by the Council.

Honorary Committee

The Honorary Committee is a Committee of Council. The Committee provides advice and makes recommendations to the Council on proposals for the awarding of an honorary degree and honorific naming by the University. The Committee operates under a charter, as approved by the Council.

Audit & Risk Management Committee

The Audit and Risk Management Committee is a Committee of Council. The Committee provides independent assurance, advice and assistance to the Council on the University's risk, control, compliance, internal audit and governance framework, and its external accountability responsibilities including in relation to financial statements. The Committee operates under a charter, as approved by the Council.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee is a Committee of Council. The Committee provides advice to the Council on the University's management of its financial resources and of its subsidiaries and commercial activities. The Committee operates under a charter, as approved by the Council.
