A more dynamic economy

In recent times, Australia has experienced a productivity slowdown. A growing body of research points to a lack of dynamism, with fewer start-ups, lower rates of job switching and less geographic mobility. Relative to other advanced countries, Australia's best firms appear to be falling away from the global productivity frontier.

Join Hon Dr Andrew Leigh MP at this Fred Gruen public lecture, where he will present new evidence on these challenges and discuss their importance to increasing productivity, which is essential to raising living standards long term.

About Hon Dr Andrew Leigh MP

Andrew is the Assistant Minister for Competition, Charities and Treasury, and Federal Member for Fenner. Prior to being elected in 2010, Andrew was a professor of economics at The Australian National University, where he briefly served as head of the Economics Program in the Research School of Social Sciences, a position held by Fred Gruen from 1972 to 1986.

He holds a PhD in Public Policy from Harvard, and is a past recipient of the Economic Society of Australia's Young Economist Award and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social Sciences. He is the author of ten books, including The Economics of Just About Everything, The Luck of Politics, and Choosing Openness.

Andrew is a keen triathlete and marathon runner, and hosts a podcast called The Good Life: Andrew Leigh in Conversation, about living a happier, healthier and more ethical life.
