Australian Women of Maths exhibition – celebrating May 12

Presented by ANU College of Science

12 May is the birthday of the extraordinary mathematician Maryam Mirzakhani, who in 2014 became the first woman and the first Iranian to be awarded a Fields Medal. Maryam died of cancer in 2017 at just 40 years of age, and to mark her amazing contributions to the field, her birthday has been chosen to celebrate Women in Mathematics worldwide.

To mark this important date, the Mathematical Sciences Institute will launch the Australian Women of Mathematics exhibit, an artistic and scientific project that offers a glimpse into the world of mathematics through photographs and excerpts of interviews of thirteen women mathematicians throughout Australia and New Zealand.

This event will be a great opportunity to meet some of the mathematicians included in the exhibition, hear about the creative energy that drives mathematicians and the human stories that connect the mathematical community.

Afternoon tea will be available from 3.30pm for a 4pm start. Places are limited and we recommend booking at your earliest convenience to secure a spot.

Registrations close Monday 11 May 2021.
