Bangladesh in the Indo-Pacific and Bangladesh-Australia relations

In this seminar, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh His Excellency M Allama Siddiki will highlight the socio-economic achievements of Bangladesh in recent times and the progress and potential for enhanced Bangladesh-Australia relations. 

High Commissioner Siddiki will provide an introduction to the culture and history of Bangladesh, and highlight Bangladesh’s recent economic progress, and major infrastructure developments. Furthermore, he will underline the challenges that need to be addressed to make socio-economic development sustainable for Bangladesh. 

High Commissioner Siddiki will discuss the growth of both bilateral and multilateral ties between Bangladesh and Australia. He will explore the mutual benefit of greater cooperation in areas such as trade, education, people-to-people connections, technology and knowledge transfer. In conclusion, High Commissioner Siddiki will examine the potential for Bangladesh and Australia to work closely together in support of regional and global peace and stability and the rules-based order.

About the speaker

H.E. M Allama Siddiki has served as the Bangladesh High Commissioner to Australia since November 2022. Prior to that, he served as the ambassador to Denmark and Turkey. He was the Director General (Administration) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in Dhaka (2014-2015), and the Director General (Africa) at MOFA (2011-2013). 

Earlier in his career, he also served as Deputy High Commissioner in London (2008-2011) and Islamabad (2005-2008), and the Director at MOFA (2003-2005) and First Secretary/Counsellor at the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata (2000-2003).

H.E. M Allama Siddiki holds a Master of Social Science in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Social Science in Public Administration from the University of Dhaka.
