Benengeli 2023, International Week of Literature in Spanish

Benengeli 2023, International Week of Literature in Spanish, is a festival to promote literature in the Spanish language, with events held at major cities across the globe.

As part of the festival, Spanish author Adolfo García Ortega is visiting ANU, hosted by the Instituto Cervantes in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain and the universities of La Trobe, Monash, RMIT, and The Australian National University (ANU).

This Canberra event is carried out in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain in Australia and the School of Literature, Languages and Linguistics.

Catering by ANU and closing drinks by the Embassy of Spain.

Language is Spanish and English.

Adolfo García Ortega, writer, translator and columnist (Valladolid, Spain)

Based in Madrid, Adolfo García Ortega has been an adviser to the Planeta editorial group since 2000. He has an extensive literary work, which includes stories, poems and essays. Some of his masterpieces include his novels Café Hugo, El comprador de anniversaries, Automata, The map of life, Passenger K, The Evangelist, A tomb in the air, The light that falls and The great journey, the latter published in 2022. It has been translated into several languages and has received various awards.

Dr Thomas Nulley-Valdés, ANU

Thomas Nulley-Valdés is event moderator, and Lecturer in Spanish Studies at ANU, from where he obtained his doctorate in 2020. His research is focused on world literature theories and methodologies, and twentieth- and twenty-first-century Spanish and Latin American literature. His first monograph, 'McOndo Revisited: The Making of a Generation Defining Anthology in the Latin American Literature-World', is being published in July 2023 by Lexington Books.
