Crossroads: Intersectionality in critical feminist research, practice and policy

Presented by ANU College of Arts & Social Sciences

The 2021 GI Signature Seminar Series opens with 'Crossroads: intersectionality in critical feminist research, practice & policy'

About this event

The concept of intersectionality describes the serious limitations of one-dimensional accounts of discrimination, inequality and disadvantage. As feminist movements take on new energies in 2021, we revisit how well the concept serves us in building more self-critical and inclusive approaches. How is intersectionality best recognised in research, practice and policy, and how does it translate into movement-building?

First in a series of six conversations on this theme, our opening Public Forum has an outstanding line-up of speakers:

  • Senator Mehreen Faruqi - The Moment of Reckoning
  • Michelle Deshong - TBA
  • Professor Raewyn Connell - Singing in Different Choirs? Intersectionality, Solidarity, Transformation
  • Srilatha Batliwala - So it's called intersectionality? How else are movements built?
  • Celeste Liddle - Intersectionality and the left - A look at the shortcomings

Chaired by Professor Kuntala Lahiri-Dutt

The event is planned to be live at ANU and online. Given the rapidly changing COVID situation we are waiting to confirm this, and will move fully online if necessary.
