Family History: Next Generation Symposium

The family is changing. For some it is flourishing, expanding to accommodate the complexity of modern life. For others it is contracting, its once primary functions subsumed by official agencies. As our experiences of family change, so too does family history. From the definitions we accept to the relationships we recognise, the questions we ask, the sources we seek, the stories we tell and the ways we tell them, all is open. The lonely tree has become a sprawling ecology.

This one-day symposium explores the future of family history and its possibilities. We invite you to be part of shaping that project. Alongside meeting and hearing from Tanya Evans, Graeme Davison, Alan Atkinson, Sophie Scott-Brown, Nick Brodie, and Kristyn Harman, leading pioneers in the field, the day includes an opportunity for you to set the agenda. We want to hear what interests or excites you about family history, what ideas or questions you have for it, how you would like to compose or curate it. All are welcome, no formal research background, experience, or expertise required.
