Global Health Watch 6 - book launch

Please join the Menzies Centre for Health Governance, RegNet and People's Health Movement Australia for this launch event of Global Health Watch 6: In the shadow of the pandemic, the alternative world health report. With contributions from across the globe, Global Health Watch 6 addresses key issues related to health systems and the range of social, economic, political and environmental determinants of health, locating decisions and choices that impact on health in the structure of global power relations and economic governance.

The Global Health Watch is a broad collaboration of public health experts, non-governmental organizations, civil society activists, community groups, health workers and academics. Global Health Watch 6 has been coordinated by eight civil society organizations - the People's Health Movement, ALAMES, Health Poverty Action, Medico International, Third World Network, Medact, Sama and Viva Salud.

About the Speakers

Erika Arteaga Cruz, MPH is an Ecuadorean feminist physician. She co-coordinates the Ecosystem and Health circle of the People´s Health Movement (PHM) and is a member of the Latinamerican Social Medicine Association. Erika is a mother of two, a professor of the San Francisco de Quito University and a PhD candidate in Collective Health, Environment and Society for the Simón Bolivar Andean University.

Ronald Labonté is Distinguished Research Chair in Globalization and Health Equity and Professor in the School of Public Health and Epidemiology, University of Ottawa. For the past 25 years his research has focused on the health equity impacts of diverse globalization processes, many of which form the content of his recent book, Health Equity in a Globalizing Era (Oxford University Press), awarded Book of the Year by the British Medical Association in 2021. He is Editor-in-Chief of the BMC journal, Globalization and Health, active with the People's Health Movement, a frequent contributor to its flagship publication Global Health Watch, and a co-editor of its 6th edition.

Brid Brennan coordinates the Corporate Power Project at The Transnational Institute (TNI) within the Economic Justice Programme. She currently focuses on the role of TNCs in economy and politics in the context of neoliberal globalisation. Her expertise and major interests are on the protagonisms of social, feminist, anti-racist, migrant and refugee movements as crucial agents of transformative change. Brid holds a BA in Literature and a post graduate degree in Education from the National University of Ireland and a Masters in Women's Studies from the University of Westminster.

Susana Barria is a researcher and campaigner on issues of health equity and economic justice. She is currently an outgoing member of the Steering Council of the People's Health Movement and the Health Equity Coordinator at Public Services International. She is based in Cochin, India.

The event will be moderated by Belinda Townsend, Deputy Directory of the Menzies Centre for Health Governance and Fellow at RegNet, ANU.
