Come and hear Megan Arthur talk about the health equity implications of climate change policies, the latest in a series of talks about society and climate at ANU. Morning tea is included so bring your own mug!

Abstract

Climate change, social inequities, and inequitable health outcomes are inextricably linked as the impacts of a warming climate alter earth systems in ways that undermine people's health directly and indirectly, mediated by the social determinants of health. Existing global economic and social inequities are compounded as the impacts of climate change disproportionately affect the health of vulnerable populations within and between countries. Governments' climate change mitigation actions can be understood as preventative public health measures in relation to the political, environmental, and social determinants of health equity. This talk will present work-in-progress findings about implications of the framing and design of public-sector mitigation approaches for planetary health equity.
