Immersia 2023: Sounds of the Pacific - PNG Perevota Singers & Deveni Temu

PNG Peroveta Singers is a Canberra based cultural group specialising in a style of singing and dancing introduced in the early 1880s by the Polynesian missionaries of the London Missionary Society from the Cook Islands, Tahiti and Niue known as Peroveta in coastal Papua. 
 

The group also performs traditional Papua New Guinea folk songs and dances to diversify its repertoire.
 

For the festival, we have selected four Peroveta song lyrics that narrate the arrival of Christianity in PNG as well as pay homage to the South Sea Island Missionaries from the Cooks Islands. We will also present four ancient folksongs and dances from the Central Province of Motu and Aroma villages.
