Launching Cybernetics at ANU

Presented by ANU College of Engineering, Computing and Cybernetics

ANU is hosting a series of public events and an inaugural exhibition to launch the School of Cybernetics. The School is making space for different futures and transforming the way society engages with technology. You are invited to explore what this means through a curated exhibition Australian Cybernetic: a point through time.

Australian Cybernetic: a point through time will take place in Canberra over 10 days from 22 November until 2 December in the award-winning ANU Birch Building. The exhibition features contemporary works by the School's artists-in-residence and collaborators, and significant works from the historic exhibitions Cybernetic Serendipity (London, 1968) and Australia 75 (Canberra, 1975). These two pivotal cybernetic exhibitions featured digital music, light, poetry, and sculpture-all created with and through computers-to start new public conversations and imagine new futures. This unique event invites participation from technologists, artists, researchers, industry leaders, policymakers and anyone interested in designing the best possible future for the generations to come.

The exhibition is open to the public and will culminate with an official School launch on 29 November. This is followed by two full days of exhibition tours, cybernetic panel discussions, interactive experiences and networking and collaboration opportunities.
