Sharing insights on policy and evaluation to deliver better outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

Commissioner Mokak will share insights drawn from 30 years of work across several sectors. 

He will reflect on his work as a public servant within both State and Commonwealth governments, as head of National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peak organisations, and most recently as a Commissioner at the Productivity Commission.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people must be centered in policy, research and evaluation of things that matter most to them. Their perspectives, priorities and knowledge should be at the fore when contemplating, designing and delivering solutions that have lasting meaning and impact.

Bio

Romlie Mokak is a Commissioner with the Productivity Commission and is a Djugun man and a member of the Yawuru people.

Prior to the Commission, he was the CEO of the Lowitja Institute, and also the CEO of the Australian Indigenous Doctors' Association. He was the first Aboriginal policy officer in the New South Wales government Ageing and Disability Department.

Romlie has chaired and has been a member of a range of policy, research, and evaluation bodies at the national and state government levels and is currently a member of the Board of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.

Romlie is currently working on the Productivity Commission's Closing the Gap Review.
