ANU celebrates women every day and particularly on International Women's Day (IWD) on Friday 8 March. In the events and stories featured on this year's IWD page, the University seeks to engage with the important conversations about gender equity and the issues facing women in all walks of life.

As you may be aware, a new performance tool and process is being developed to replace the current Performance Development Review (PDR) system. The new process will be launched in On Campus on Tuesday 27 February, including a new website and information sessions. 

In the 2023 ANYOU Survey many staff commented on the need to improve our performance process, highlighting that PDRs weren't being completed and there was a lack of useful feedback. This new PDR process will help drive a culture of feedback, accountability and professional growth. 

However, we still need a name for the new process / system - and we want your ideas. We need something short and easy to remember – such as a single word or another three-letter acronym.

International best-selling author Dervla McTiernan will be in conversation with Chris Hammer on her new book What Happened to Nina, an emotional novel of suspense about two families at war with each other. Her book also reflects on the power of social media to work both for and against victims of crime and their loved ones.

In his newly launched book Curing Stubborn Depression Professor Paul Fitzgerald brings his 20 years of experience in psychiatry to dispel the myths surrounding depression and its care, and delves into the emerging range of new treatments transforming the management of persistent depression. This launch is hosted by the ANU College of Health and Medicine.

Assembly unites eight artists born in Hong Kong across different diasporic generations. In the context of ongoing migration, this exhibition delves into the process of 'making sense' of layers and fragments, of memories and stories, whether narrated or left unspoken. It embraces the interplay between the varied creative approaches of these artists, challenging preconceived notions of diasporic identity. The exhibition features a Weaving Workshop and an Artist Talk with Pamela Leung.

As we welcome everyone back to campus, it’s important to remember these essential tips for staying covid-safe at ANU: 

Stay home if you are sick. If you feel unwell, please don’t come to campus. Please also encourage anyone who has symptoms to stay at home until they are well. 

- You no longer need to notify ANU via the online form if you test positive for COVID. We encourage you notify your supervisor and/or local area to ensure necessary precautions are taken. 

- If you become seriously ill from COVID while undertaking University business activities, it is a requirement that a Figtree Incident Notification be completed. 

- You can still collect free masks, RATS and hand sanitiser at the ANU Medical Centre. Please do not attend if you are feeling unwell or have tested positive for COVID.

- Staff can book an appointment to receive a booster dose on campus at the University Pharmacy. You can also make a booking through your local pharmacy or doctor .

The start of a new academic year brings an increase in pedestrian, vehicular and cycling traffic. Please be aware of the risks presented by this increase in traffic. There are useful ANU resources available with regards to safe e-scooter use, cycling and walking.

Safety incidents and hazards 

Safety hazards and incidents should be reported so that we can keep our community safe and well. You can directly report incidents and or hazards through the Figtree online system. Further information is available on the FAQ page . 

Staff who sustain an injury while engaged in work related activities are eligible for early intervention assistance up to $1,300 and workers compensation benefits.

Applications now open – NECTAR 2024 Mentoring Program 

The ANU NECTAR Mentoring Program is most relevant to academic staff in their first few years in teaching and/or research roles. This program is also useful for Early Career Academics who would like to connect with a mentor from a different discipline though same-discipline mentoring relationships. Mentors with non-academic career experience will be available as well. 

Eligibility criteria: 

- ANU academic staff levels A-C in teaching/research roles, casual sessional academic staff, ANU Medical School honorary academics 

- Must have an employment contract with ANU for more than 12 months. 

Applications close on Thursday 14 March at 11pm.  

Applications now open – Professional Staff Scholarship Scheme (PSSS) and Professional Staff Development Endowment Fund (PSDEF) 

Applications are now open for Round 1 2024 of the Professional Staff Scholarship Scheme (PSSS) and the Professional Staff Development Endowment Fund (PSDEF). 

The PSSS supports a range of career development programs and initiatives that advance the skills and knowledge of professional staff. Priority is given to development initiatives that provide staff with a formal qualification. 

The PSDEF assists the development of professional staff through supporting short courses, conferences and comparable professional development initiatives. 

Applications will close on Friday 22 March.

Apply now for the Indigenous Professional Staff Grants Program 

In order to advance the ANU Strategic Plan 2021-2025, the Indigenous Professional Staff Grants Program (IPSGP) provides grants for ANU Colleges, Schools, Service Divisions or other ANU Business Units for initiatives that support employment outcomes for Indigenous professional staff at ANU.  

Successful areas are required to match the grant with an equal funding commitment.
