Vale Mervyn Paterson

The man behind a geological tool used to measure rock formation, Mervyn Paterson, has died aged 95. Professor Paterson is considered one of the forefathers of the ANU Research School of Earth Sciences and his 50 year old machine, the ‘Paterson apparatus’, is still in operation today.

The Vice-Chancellor will be hosting another staff forum to answer any questions about flexible working arrangements and other financial health issues.

Voting to open for variation to the University’s Enterprise Agreement

Eligible staff will be invited to vote on deferring the scheduled pay rise for July 2020 and July 2021 under the ANU Enterprise Bargaining Agreement. Voting will be open from Wednesday 17 to Tuesday 23 June via electronic ballot. A replay of the Thursday 11 June information session with Human Resources Director Nadine White can be found here

Global public health and COVID-19 – ANU Crawford Leadership Forum

Have you been finding it tough to sort the facts from the fiction on COVID-19? The ANU Research School of Psychology has teamed up with the Black Dog Institute to offer a free webinar on the impact of information (and misinformation) on mental health and wellbeing during the COVID-19 pandemic.  

The COVID-19 pandemic has tipped the world’s concept of ‘normal’ on its head, and has forced our society, and our University, to rethink the way we interact with each other. This fortnight we focus on Wright Hall and the efforts they’ve gone to so students remain connected.

A ‘classic’ of the Classics Museum has returned home following the January hailstorm.  

Congratulations to Vice-President (Advancement), Barbara Miles, who has been named the 2020 recipient of the John Lippincott Award for Global Advancement and Support of Education.  

Engineer and ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science Deputy Dean Professor Nick Birbilis was recently announced as a Fellow in electrochemistry.
