Join us for a special livestreamed event connecting students and the general public from across Australia to engage in an in-depth dialogue encompassing diverse perspectives on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice Referendum. This unique opportunity, held both online and in-person at Llewellyn Hall in Canberra on Ngambri and Ngunnawal land, allows us to hear from our national student body as our nation prepares for one of the most significant referendums in our history. 

The Dialogue has been developed by the ANU First Nations Portfolio and will feature a live panel of Indigenous leaders on the Voice and political representatives and will be moderated by Professor Mark Kenny. We hope to facilitate a vibrant, inclusive and respectful public discussion covering off on the tough questions that students from around Australia want to ask.   

Seating is limited for staff, so register now to secure your spot and join the students and the general public in this meaningful dialogue about the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice Referendum. Additionally, staff members are encouraged to participate by tuning in to the livestream for those unable to attend in person.

On 5 July 2023 ANU signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) to partner in achieving better public good outcomes on policies that affect Australians in their daily lives. 

In signing the MoU, ANU Vice-Chancellor Professor Brian Schmidt and DCCEEW Secretary David Fredericks commit to the two organisations working together to design projects that align with their shared priorities. ANU is a significant partner organisation for a range of DCCEEW business areas, including on climate science, clean energy and emissions reductions, biodiversity, water science, science into policy, and computing and data sciences. 

The University’s partnership agreement with DCCEEW will also build on the strength of existing relationships between ANU experts and the Department. 

“The ANU is in a unique position as both a federal agency (Commonwealth authority) and a research institution to partner with DCCEEW,” Secretary Fredericks said. 

The MoU provides an overarching framework for collaborative activities such as coordinating and managing the delivery of research and development projects, providing expert advice, and professional development. 

Dr Natasha Szuhan, an early career researcher at the ANU School of Sociology, is conducting groundbreaking research on the history of contraceptive science. Her project focuses on women's experiences with the pill, aiming to challenge prevailing narratives and provide a deeper understanding of its impact on gender, sexuality, and societal structures during the era of women's liberation.

Get involved by using plastic alternatives at home and work. Join us for the opening of Exquisite Corpse - Insight Into The Human Body a collaboration with the ANU School of Medicine and Psychology and the ANU School of Art & Design.

The structure and function of the body are explored and put in context using a variety of two-dimensional and three-dimensional materials and processes including live and anatomical models and cadaveric specimens.

Call for applications for 2023 ANU College of Science Brooke Bushfire Research Fund Support  

In memory of Peter Brabazon Brooke, who died in the 2003 Canberra bushfires, and all the victims of bushfires in Australia, the ANU College of Science Brooke Bushfire Research Fund are generously offering a number of research grants up to $100,000 to support bushfire research.  

The purpose of this fund is to provide a broad scope of support for bushfire research. This includes but is not limited to any related activities which support or enable bushfire research.  

Applications from all areas of the University are encouraged. The ANU College of Science Brooke Bushfire Fund welcomes proposals bringing together two or more groups within the University and would consider requests for larger grants if a collaborative, interdisciplinary project was approved.
