This winter, for the first time four buildings on the ANU campus have been heated using electric heat pumps, keeping occupants warm without relying on fossil fuel powered energy. This project has reduced the University’s carbon footprint by 230,000 kg CO2e per annum.  

Three more buildings will be transitioned away from gas this summer, to be operational by winter 2024, with four more coming online in winter 2025. These major works are part of the first tranche of projects to transition the ANU campus away from gas.

Message from the Chief People Officer - Bargaining update 

The University is pleased to announce that we have reached a significant milestone in the bargaining negotiations with NTEU and other bargaining representatives, and the unions are at a point where they can recommend an Agreement to their members for endorsement. 

The University’s goal throughout the enterprise bargaining negotiations has been to build and maintain employment arrangements to ensure we are well placed to attract and retain world-class staff, with consideration of the current challenges faced by the institution and sector more broadly.  

We want our staff to feel supported and valued and proud to work at our leading University.  

In the meantime, the ANU Enterprise Bargaining team has prepared this summary for staff, containing the key terms and conditions that have been negotiated, as well as the process for the next steps to staff vote and implementation.

Researchers at ANU have been recognised for their pivotal efforts in the battle against COVID-19 in Australia's premier science awards, the 2023 Australian Museum Eureka Prizes. Dr Minh Bui and Dr Rob Lanfear combined their computer science and biology expertise to develop IQ-TREE2, free, open-source software turns DNA data into crucial evolutionary insights.
