Professor Andrew Blakers from the ANU College of Engineering, Computing and Cybernetics has been awarded the 2023 Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering (QEPrize).

Professor Blakers helped transform the efficiency of solar cell technology and has dedicated his career to tackling climate change.

Several Australian jurisdictions are currently in the process of criminalising coercive and controlling behaviours. Professor Kate Fitz-Gibbon, Director of the Monash Gender and Family Violence Prevention Centre, will deliver a keynote address and share results from the national survey of victim-survivors' views on the criminalisation of coercive control.

Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden delivered a special address this morning at The Australian National University to open the panel event on Electrification in Sweden and Australia.  

Australian and Swedish experts shared their views on best practices to fully leverage electrification on the path to net-zero. Australia and Sweden share commitments to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 and stand by the letter and spirit of the Paris Agreement.

Career Guidance through Mentor Walks

Mentor Walks are back for 2023 and open for all women at any stage of their careers. You’ll have the opportunity to seek great advice from female CEOs, directors, executives, entrepreneurs and leaders in their fields who want to help women succeed and get the career help they need.

Last week Yukeembruk, the newest residence on campus, was officially opened by Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor and a special smoking ceremony conducted by Ngambri-Ngunnawal Elder Dr Aunty Matilda House.  

The name Yukeembruk and Maliyan Lane were gifted to ANU following consultation with Ngambri/Ngurmal (Walgalu), Wallaballooa (Ngunnawal), Wiradyuri (Erambie) custodian, Paul Girrawah House, and Professor Aunty Anne Martin, Director of the ANU Tjabal Indigenous Higher Education Centre. 

Yukeembruk is now the University's largest residence to date offering 731 beds across four buildings. The first intake of residents has begun filling up those rooms, excited to start the semester.  

Caitlyn Lewis is a second year studying a Bachelor of Engineering and Science. 

“This is my second year living away from home and I’m loving Yukeembruk so far, it's so nice being a part of a new residence and working with everyone to come up with a new culture."

For the 2023 Commencement event yesterday, each team member who assisted on the day walked an average of 9km around campus including set up and pack down.
