- We are looking forward to welcoming all our students back to campus this year. Students have been encouraged to make arrangements to travel to Canberra as soon as possible. Our approach to remote learning in 2023 is unchanged:
- Semester 1, 2023, we will continue to offer a limited number of courses remotely for students who need more time to arrange their travel
- Semester 2, 2023, we expect to complete the full transition to in-person study with all our students on campus
- This week the Respectful Relationships Unit launched the new consent and healthy relationships education program, Rights, Relationships and Respect. The program is a crucial part of the University's Student Safety and Wellbeing Plan and ongoing commitment to provide students with a safe and enjoyable campus experience. - Don’t forget to register for this Thursday’s State of the University Address. As the first major in-person ANU event of the year, it is a great way to connect with your team or reconnect with friends across campus. Why not plan to catch up with a colleague at the morning tea after the Address?

ANU pays tribute to Emeritus Professor Will Steffen
|
The University is mourning the loss of one of Australia’s most influential and respected climate scientists, Emeritus Professor Will Steffen.
Professor Steffen was an internationally-esteemed expert in global change research, serving as Executive Director of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP) and a contributor to five Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) assessment reports.
He will leave behind a lasting legacy at ANU, as the former Director of the ANU Fenner School of Environment and Society, and the Inaugural Director of the ANU Climate Institute.

Thursday 2 February, 10-11am, followed by morning tea
Come and hear from the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor as they outline their vision, plans and key announcements for the year ahead. All staff are encouraged to attend in person. A free morning tea will follow the event.

Monday 6 February, 3-6pm
The annual ANU Climate Update brings together experts, policymakers, students and industry to discuss the state of our climate and what can be done to tackle climate change. This year’s Update will present an overview of how our climate is changing and how we are responding to these changes in Australia and around the world.

Future of Education at ANU Symposium
|
Wednesday 8 February, 9am–5pm
Hosted by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), the symposium will focus on topics arising out of ANU-wide student education and experience initiatives, including the ANU Undergraduate Curriculum Framework, Graduate Attributes, Teaching and Learning Strategy and ANU by 2025. ANU academic and professional staff are invited to attend.

2023 Commencement Address
|
Monday 13 February, 10-11am, followed by morning tea
The ANU Commencement Address is one of the biggest University Traditions which marks the beginning of the academic year for our new students. It is an opportunity for staff to welcome the new student cohort of 2023 to ANU.
The 2023 keynote will be delivered by ANU alumnus Kieran Pender, a senior lawyer at the Human Rights Law Centre and an honorary lecturer at the ANU College of Law.

Collaborative Practice Labs Program – call for EOIs
The new Collaborative Practice Labs Program is seeking expressions of interest from ANU academics and professionals to participate in the program's first phase. The Program is a new approach to supporting academics and professionals to develop their collaborations. Participants will take part in 5 peer learning 'Practice Labs’, working broadly on themes and dynamics emerging in current collaborative projects Lab members are working on.
This program has been developed out of CASS-based research (the CASS Collaborative Cultures Project), looking at ways to better understand and navigate collaboration.
Send your expression of interest to Sejul Malde (sejul.malde@anu.edu.au) by the deadline of Monday 6 February 2023 at 5pm.

- Thinking about pursuing study at ANU? The Staff Family Tuition fee discount provides staff and their family members with a discount on tuition fees for eligible ANU coursework degrees.
- Applications for the tuition fee discount will be open in the coming weeks so keep an eye out.
- Please note tuition fees for all students will be issued in the next week. If you have already enrolled to study this year and are eligible for the tuition discount, your tuition fee will be retrospectively amended once you apply for the discount.
- With Phase 1 of the ANU Medical Centre procurement process completed in late 2022, the University will now move into a negotiation phase with a potential new provider. The Medical Centre is continuing to operate as normal. The ANU community will be updated regarding progress.

Services' fun fact for the week
During the 2022 Semester 2 Exam Period the ANU Libraries saw over 67,000 visits. The busiest single day saw over 10,000 visits across all five branches which means that in Canberra the ANU Libraries draw a bigger crowd than The Wiggles!
