Yesterday’s power outage that affected approximately one third of the ANU Acton Campus was caused by a fallen tree that struck power lines on Liversidge Street. Evoenergy fixed the impacted power lines, and power was restored to all affected buildings yesterday afternoon.

The ANU Landscape & Conservation Team has removed the tree fall and debris, and the sidewalk is now open to the public. We thank you for your patience and understanding during this incident.

Associate Professor Marnie Shaw, ANU School of Engineering and Research Lead at the ANU Battery Storage and Grid Integration Program, has taken an unconventional path from biotech and brain imaging research to her current role. 

Marnie’s work focuses on battery storage and the services they can provide to support the uptake of renewable energy, including her research on neighbourhood batteries which combine engineering and social research to understand both the technical and social benefits of this medium-scale shared form of energy storage.

The Lactation After Loss quilt will be an important device in workshops with health care professionals to prompt reflection and action upon lactation care delivery for parents bereaved by stillbirth and infant death.

Join the ANU Ally Network for a Conversations Stall and Picnic to mark International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia next Wednesday. The Network will be running an information and engagement stall with resources to share on University Ave from 10am-12pm, followed by a conversations picnic from 12-2pm with free food and drinks provided. Staff are encouraged to join students on Uni Ave to talk about what we can all do to make our campus a safe and positive environment.

Single Service Model for Student Associations – Announcement

After a year of consultation and discussion, the Postgraduate Service Support and Representation Taskforce has reached an agreement for the implementation of a new single service model for student associations at ANU.

The ANU Postgraduate and Research Students' Association (PARSA) will operate 'business as usual' until 30 June 2023. From 1 July, the ANU Undergraduate Students’ Association (ANUSA) will represent and provide continuing services for postgraduate students. This decision has been jointly agreed by ANUSA and PARSA. 

The University is now taking steps to release additional funding to allow ANUSA to become the single student association and expand their scope of work to include postgraduate students.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) will review the transition of postgraduate services to ANUSA in November 2023, and subject to a successful transition period, will commence discussions regarding future, longer term funding.

The Senior Management Group (SMG) has endorsed the revised ANU Travel Policy and creation of a new Travel Handbook which contains all travel related procedures and useful information. 

A series of in-person and online information sessions are scheduled this month to inform staff of key changes. The online session will be recorded and made available for anyone who is unable to attend.

Vice-Chancellor Search Consultation 

We received a significant amount of feedback and are grateful to everyone who took the time to provide their thoughts and insights. We are already noticing some key themes emerging. A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion was a common thread throughout many of your responses, as was a desire for a candidate with strong academic credibility and a proven track record of academic excellence. Additionally, many of you emphasised the importance of leadership skills and good management capability for all our students, academic and professional staff.
