Restoring Nutritional Landscapes

Not all trees are the same.

Landscape disturbance from logging, fire, and land clearing can alter the structure and composition of our forests and woodlands. These changes can affect their nutritional quality and carrying capacity for some of Australia's most iconic leaf-eating animals, including the greater glider and koala. A focus on regenerating trees without understanding how their composition affects plant-animal systems can cripple the ability of landscapes to support viable populations of our unique native fauna.

Donations towards our projects will improve our understanding of how forest composition affects habitat nutritional quality for marsupial folivores and also help conserve biodiversity more broadly. As part of our applied research, we work closely with traditional owners, policy-makers, and other landscape managers, including local Landcare groups, to apply science-driven strategies to forest restoration and target management actions more effectively.

Long-term, landscape-scale restoration initiatives require ongoing support. Key answers are still needed and you can help. Together, we will make a difference. For more information about our projects and how to volunteer, please see our website at https://www.restoringnutritionallandscapes.com/
