15 September 2020 - Message from VC

15 Sep 2020

Message to all ANU staff on Tuesday 15 September at 2pm.

Dear colleagues

This year has been incredibly tough for our entire community, and as you know, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on how our university operates and our finances.

We have rallied in the face of this crisis and I have been impressed by the resilience and determination across our community. In particular, we have banded together to make much needed, immediate financial savings in 2020.

However, the challenge is not yet over, and it is now clear that we will face ongoing financial constraints in 2021 and beyond. Now more than ever, it is imperative that we ensure ANU is able to fulfil its distinct national mission. We must adapt to our new circumstances and the challenges we face to thrive in the future.

With that in mind, we are developing a Recovery Plan for ANU. This plan will steer us out of the current crisis and ensure the University's long-term stability.

I will host a virtual all-staff meeting tomorrow, 1.15pm (Wednesday 16 September) to outline the approach we are taking to the development of the University's Recovery Plan. I encourage all staff to attend. You can register here. For those unable to attend the meeting, a recording will be made available.

Noting that 2020 has been a tough year, I ask that you continue to show kindness and compassion as we address these next challenges together. If you, or someone you know needs help, please access one of our free support services.
