ANU launches new reverse vending machine

14 Mar 2023

Bought a soft drink for lunch? Recycle it on campus! Put the 10c container deposit to good use with the new recycling machine on campus, located on the ground floor of the Marie Reay Teaching Centre.

The reverse vending machine accepts eligible containers and redeems them for cash donations to local charities that were selected by ANU students.

The money raised by the machine is split evenly between two local initiatives. The first beneficiary, the Conservation Council of the ACT Regionuses their portion of the funds towards their environmental sustainability initiatives. The ANU Kitchen Garden uses their funds to improve their garden activities and to engage and serve more ANU students.

The ANU Facilities and Services Division manages the machine. It was launched last month in partnership with ANU and Return-It, the ACT government's container deposit scheme partnering company.

For more information on what can be recycled on ANU campus check this comprehensive list compiled by ANU Facilities and Services.

If you work or study in a building which doesn't recycle a specific type of waste, or planning a major event that you expect extra waste generation contact your Building Custodian or send an email to fixmycampus.fs@anu.edu.au.
