Important update about quarantine arrangements at ANU

Message to staff and students from Professor Ian Anderson, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student & University Experience).
19 Jul 2021

Dear colleagues,

We hope you and your loved ones are well and keeping safe.

I'm writing to inform you that the ACT and Federal governments have requested our assistance to safely quarantine groups of returning, vaccinated, official Australian travellers.

The first group is expected to arrive tomorrow.

As you know, we have previously used Davey Lodge for this purpose. We will now retain Davey Lodge for returning students who need to isolate, and will use ANU apartments on Liversidge Street for official travellers.

ACT Health and ACT Policing will oversee the quarantine. Quarantine arrangements in the ACT have been very successful, and we are confident they have very robust measures in place.

Your health and safety are our highest priority, so we and ACT Health are taking all necessary measures to help keep you and the rest of our community safe. The units are traditionally used for visiting staff and are currently vacant. No ANU staff or students will interact with the quarantining travellers. While the area is being used for quarantine, we ask members of our community to please stay away.

The vaccinated, quarantining travellers will remain in their accommodation for the duration of the quarantine period and will not access areas used by the public at any time.

ANU is pleased to be able to serve the nation in this way. Please join me in wishing our guests a safe and comfortable stay.

I also want to remind all of you that we are continuing to work with all levels of government and other universities to bring our students home safely as soon as possible - that includes students who are impacted by travel restrictions in Australia and our students overseas.

We can't wait to have all of our students return safely to campus, and we know some of you are finding the current restrictions hard at the moment. In the meantime, we're here to support you regardless of your current location and encourage you to reach out.

Best wishes,
Ian
