New Colombo Plan Mobility Program
Overview
ANU has been successful in obtaining funding for various learning abroad programs through the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's New Colombo Plan (NCP).
The NCP Mobility Program provides funding opportunities for Australian universities and consortia to provide grants to Australian undergraduate students to participate in semester based or short term study, internships, mentorships, practicums and research in 40 host locations across the Indo-Pacific region. In the 2019 round, ANU has obtained funding for 18 learning abroad projects in China, India, Indonesia, Fiji, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
ANU students can apply for NCP funded specific learning abroad programs as and when they are promoted through various channels, including the Global Opportunities website and the ANU Global Programs Facebook page. NCP funded opportunities may be administered by ANU Global Programs, or alternatively by specific ANU academic colleges. Students can visit the ANU Global Programs office if they wish to speak with an advisor about the range of funded learning abroad opportunities available.
ANU students can only apply through ANU for NCP grants and scholarships for which funding has been secured by the University, not directly to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Students also cannot apply generically to ANU for 'NCP funding' - all grants are linked to an approved project (program) for which ANU has secured specific funding from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Eligibility
To receive an NCP Mobility Program grant, students must meet the following criteria
- Citizenship: Recipients of NCP mobility grants must be Australian Citizens
- Undergraduate: NCP mobility grants are only for students undertaking Bachelor/Bachelor Honours degrees
- Age: At least 70% of students in an NCP-funded course must be between the ages of 18 and 28. Up to 30% of students can be over 28, and students under the age of 18 are not eligible
- Previous Grants: Students can receive a maximum of one semester NCP grant (coded NCPSEM) and one short program NCP grant (coded NCPST) in their lifetime.
