University of Tsukuba Biodiversity, Biotechnology and Applications short course

If you are interested in an international study experience but aren't ready to commit to a full semester abroad the University of Tsukuba summer program may be the ideal opportunity for you. The ANU Colleges of Science are offering up to 12 science undergraduate students the opportunity to undertake an English-medium, short program of study at the University of Tsukuba in Japan.

This two week immersive program in life sciences will run from 3 July to 15 July 2016. Examples of field trips from 2015 include the University of Tsukuba Shimoda Marine Research Centre and the Sugadaira Alpine Research Centre (field trips for 2016 will be confirmed in due course).

Prior to the program, all students will be provided with a pre-departure briefing by the ANU Colleges of Science to prepare them for the experience.

About the University of Tsukuba

The University of Tsukuba, located in the Kanto region of Japan, is one of the oldest national universities and has the largest single campus in Japan. The university is one of the Japanese elite institutions of higher education and is a member of the 'Global 30' Project Universities. 

Funding and fees

All accepted students will receive a AUD $1,200 grant from the ANU Colleges of Science to contribute to your experience, and could cover a range of costs including travel to and from and within Japan, meals, living expenses and text books.

Students will enrol and pay fees for a six unit 1000-level science ANU elective course (students must have room in their degree for a 1000-level Science course). Students will not pay further fees to the University of Tsukuba.

Australian citizens, permanent humanitarian visa holders and New Zealand Special Category Visa holders who meet the long-term residency requirements are eligible to be considered for an OS-HELP loan which can assist with the financing of this global opportunity. For this opportunity, eligible ANU students can borrow up to AUD $7,764. Students can access further information at the ANU OS-HELP webpage.

Insurance

Participants will receive ANU insurance coverage for the duration of their trip.

Selection will be based on the most creative responses that meet the word limits. Applicants' GPAs may also be taken into consideration.
