Zoo Quest for FYE

On Thursday 12th September, students in the First Year Experience (FYE) program are visiting the National Zoo! This is an opportunity for fun and social connection for students of the FYE program.

The FYE program is for domestic undergraduate students in their first year of university and is a fun way for students to find their community, get access to personal and professional development opportunities, and get connected with students, staff, supports and services at ANU.

The FYE program progresses alongside key milestones in the first year at the ANU to support students onto the next steps of their journey, and beyond!

In the upcoming teaching break, FYE will be taking a trip to the National Zoo and Aquarium. This will be an opportunity for FYE students to take a break from study and spend time getting to know other members of the FYE cohort, while enjoying the opportunity to explore the zoo!

FYE is all about supporting students who are traditionally under-represented at universities. This may include students from regional, rural or remote locations or low-SES backgrounds, or students who are First Nations or in the first generation of their family to attend university. These unique and diverse experiences can all impact a student in their first year of studies, and it is so important to connect with other students who can understand and share their own similar experiences.

Other FYE events this year have included leadership workshops, study skills sessions, a clothing swap and other social events. Students from the program have shared that during FYE events they felt "happy to be in a welcoming environment”, "included and valued", and that “uni was going to be ok!!”

It's not too late to join for the end of 2024. Future students should keep an eye out to register if commencing at ANU in 2025.
