Nominations are now open for the Student Volunteer of the Year award and a host of other ANU Alumni Awards for 2025 that honour our extraordinary alumni.
The ANU Alumni Awards recognise and celebrate the diverse achievements of our alumni and student volunteers, who are making a real difference in the world. We are seeking nominations for those individuals who inspire others and who are making a real difference in their field.
In 2023, the Student Volunteer of the Year (Undergraduate) award went to Honours student at the John Curtin School of Medical Research, Tom Gibbs, for his dedication to community safety and health through volunteering with St John Ambulance. Reflecting on his work in hospitals, Tom knew that his volunteering mattered because it filled a vital patient care gap that healthcare providers need support in filling – patient wellbeing care.
Inspiring mental health wellbeing for youth in Malaysia, Dr Sharrada Segeran was the postgraduate recipient of the Student Volunteers of the Year award for her work in the Mind Matters Network. Dr Segeran encouraged others to contribute to their community where they see a need – and not just headline-worthy impact, “Change is not about making huge headlines. Sometimes it’s just about doing that one small thing for a person. All of us have got the potential to make change”.
