About NALO
The purpose of the Australian National University's North American Liaison Office (NALO) is to enhance the international standing and profile of the university and to support staff and students to engage more effectively with partners in the United States and Canada.
NALO is located in the Australian Embassy in Washington DC. Reflecting our unique national role, the ANU is the only Australian university to have offices within an embassy. NALO works closely with the Australian Government and strengthens partnerships with universities, government, think-tanks, industry and our alumni community in North America.
The United States is home to many of the world's top universities, ranks first for global research and innovation performance, is the world's largest economy and Australia's most important policy and strategic partner. Collaboration with leading North American researchers boosts the quality and impact of ANU research and creates unique opportunities for ANU students to become future leaders.
By working across the Embassy and supporting cooperation with the US and Canada, NALO supports the delivery of the ANU Strategic Plan by raising the quality and international standing of ANU research and education, fulfilling our unique national role, delivering a globally-engaged student experience and enhancing engagement with our alumni.
ANU is Australia's most international university, ranked first in Australia and 7th in the world for international outlook according to the Times Higher Education International Outlook Indicator 2016/17. Graduates from the ANU have been rated as Australia's most employable and among the most sought after by employers worldwide (THE rankings 2016). ANU is a member of the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU) as well as the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU).
