Immersia 2024: Mongolia Showcase

Welcome to our Mongolia Showcase as part of 2024 Immersia: Engaging with Asia and the Pacific!

Experience Mongolian culture like never before, with a series of attractions in and around the piece de resistance - our very own Mongolian ger.

A traditional Mongolian dwelling, the ger was gifted to ANU in 2013 by the President of Mongolia at the time and facilitated by the Mongolian Embassy in Canberra, in recognition of the University's commitment to Mongolian studies. ANU is the only university in the Pacific region to be engaging and teaching Mongolian-oriented courses in language, history and culture.

Ager, the Mongolian term for house is a tent structure held together by slotting poles together and securing with ropes made from horse hair and knots made from cow hide.

Once more, during our flagship cultural showcase Immersia, the ANU School of Culture, History & Language are proud to present the ger, as well as a host of events lined up for you to experience Mongolia right at your doorstep. From calligraphy to cuisine, come along and immerse yourself in Mongolian traditions during Immersia.
