ANU celebrates alumni achievements

Graduates representing the arts, government, academia, community and industry were recognised at the annual celebration and recognition of alumni achievements.

Hosted by Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Young, the celebration was attended by graduate recipients of this year's Australia Day and Queen's Birthday Honours, the ANU Alumni Awards, Telstra Business Awards, ANU Public Policy Fellows, Fulbright Scholarships, Innovation Awards and local and community awards.

Associate Director of Alumni Relations, Lea Sublett, said this annual celebration enables the University community to recognise the diversity of achievements of alumni within local and international communities.

"ANU graduates are ambassadors for the University and we place great importance on publicly acknowledging and celebrating their achievements which play a significant role in enhancing the University's reputation," Sublett says.

Some of the alumni recognised at the celebration include:
• Tom Wood and Andrew Herman, young entrepreneurs and co-founders of Nexus eWater who have raised $1.2 million for a suite of energy and water recycling products.
• Sister Pauline Coll AM, who was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia earlier this year for significant service to the Catholic Church in Australia, and as an advocate for the protection of women and children.
• Michael Rothery PSM who recently received a Public Service Medal for the delivery of innovative and effective strategies that improve our ability to respond to recover from national security events.
• Michelle Melbourne and Phillip Williamson, co-founders of Intelledox - a global software company that was founded and located in Canberra, which was recently named 2014 Telstra ACT Business of the Year.

The reception also marked the launch of the 2015 ANU Alumni Awards. The Awards celebrate and promote the achievements of alumni who have achieved outstanding success in their fields and made extraordinary contributions to the global community.
