HECS-HELP

HECS-HELP is a loan scheme provided by the Australian government to assist higher education students with a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) to meet the tuition costs of their studies. The HECS-HELP Commonwealth Assistance Form (CAF) is a legal document whereby you accept and agree to the conditions of your CSP.

Commonwealth assistance notice

After the census date passes students enroled in Commonwealth supported places or electing to use FEE-HELP will be provided with an electronic Commonwealth Assistance Notice (eCAN) for their enrolled courses.

Your eCAN includes important information about your enrolment, any HELP debt you have incurred, contribution amounts you have paid, and any loan fee you have incurred.

Undergraduate commonwealth supported places

All domestic undergraduate students enrolled in a degree or other award program at ANU are Commonwealth supported, subject to meeting the ongoing eligibility requirements. Some domestic graduate students are also Commonwealth supported.

Students who are Commonwealth supported are enrolled in a Commonwealth supported place (CSP) and pay subsidised tuition fees with the Australian government paying the remainder of the cost.

Student contributions

A tuition fee is set for each course. If you are a Commonwealth supported student, the Australian Government pays a portion of the tuition fee. The remaining balance is called the student contribution.

Late fees

Students who have not paid or deferred their tuition fees by the due date will incur a late fee.

Late fees are applied in multiple instances and range from $125 to $500 as per the table below.

Multiple late fees accumulate and must be paid in full. Fees and late fees not paid by the course census dates will result in the cancellation from the program for students.

Fee refunds

Students may be eligible to apply for a fee refund to receive a direct repayment to their bank account when they undertake an action that results in a credit balance in their student account.

US Veterans Affairs benefits

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will pay an eligible student education benefits for the pursuit of an approved program of education or training. An approved program is a course of study or a program of training which has been determined by the Department of Veteran Affairs as meeting the legal requirements for payment of educational assistance benefits to veterans and other eligible persons.

Federal student loans are interest-free, full-time student loans. The Canadian government will pay the interest on your Canada student loan while you are studying full-time. You must confirm your student status at the end of each Canadian academic year.
